The Black Ferns, New Zealand’s top women’s rugby team, have discovered a game-changing recovery secret within the walls of Wai Ariki Hot Springs & Spa. Nestled by Lake Rotorua, this hidden gem provided the perfect retreat and recovery spot for the athletes after some gruelling training sessions.
Known for their dominance in rugby, the Black Ferns experienced the therapeutic benefits of Wai Ariki’s geothermal healing waters. The elite athletes found relief from fatigue and muscle soreness, which helped enhance their performance both on and off the field.
Debbie Robertson, General Manager at Wai Ariki, said, “We are thrilled to welcome such inspiring athletes to visit our Whare Hauora. The team utilises the pools to help them recover after a hard training run. Moving between the hot geo pools and the cold plunge pool reduces fatigue and muscle soreness and has many health benefits. We look forward to welcoming them back again soon.
“Wai Ariki is inspired and owned by local iwi, Ngāti Whakaue and features two main spa areas, the Wai Whakaora (Restorative Journey) and the exclusive Āhuru Mōwai (The Sanctuary). Both are places of peace and tranquillity, founded on te ao Māori values, traditions and culture and unique not only in Aotearoa, New Zealand but around the world.
“After their experience, the Black Ferns left feeling revitalised but also spiritually enriched, having embraced the essence of Rotorua’s geothermal bathing and Whakaue healing practices,” Debbie concluded.
